What is the most common CNC machine?

There isn’t necessarily a single “most common” type of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine, as the specific type of machine used will depend on the specific application and industry. However, CNC mills and CNC lathes are two of the most commonly used types of CNC machines in manufacturing.

CNC mills are used for cutting, drilling, and shaping various materials, including metals, plastics, and composites. They use a rotating cutting tool to remove material from a workpiece, typically in a 3-axis (X, Y, Z) configuration, although some machines have more axes for increased precision.

CNC lathes, on the other hand, are used for shaping materials by rotating them against a cutting tool. They are often used for producing cylindrical or round parts, such as shafts or bolts, and can be used for a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, and wood.

Both CNC mills and CNC lathes are highly versatile and can be used for a wide range of applications in industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical device manufacturing, and many others.
