Why is it called CNC?

The term CNC stands for “Computer Numerical Control.” The name comes from the fact that CNC machines are operated using computer software and numerical data to control the movement of cutting tools and other machine components.

Before the advent of CNC machines, manufacturing operations were often performed using manual machines that were operated by hand. This meant that the machinist had to manually guide the cutting tool to produce the desired shape and dimensions of the part being manufactured. This process was time-consuming, labor-intensive, and often resulted in variations in the finished part.

CNC machines, on the other hand, are operated using computer software that can precisely control the movement of the cutting tool and other machine components. This makes it possible to produce parts with greater accuracy and consistency, and to automate many aspects of the manufacturing process.

Today, CNC machines are widely used in a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, medical, and electronics manufacturing, and are an essential tool for modern manufacturing operations.
